The Goldsmith and the Stone Pg. 24
It was a grueling task, pulling out the old beams, setting a new path for a way into the mine. The deep crevasse now evident was to be carefully walked around. A small railing, now in place, was all the team could come up with. Goldsmith brought his compass and measured what he had now discovered was the actual vein of gold predicted years past. He felt his temperature rise, even on this cold, snowy day. Lanterns revealed more of a crevasse than they had previously thought. It would be few weeks before testing’s could be made in the new found path of the mine.
Now a bonded team, all the men worked together quietly, a few jokes hear and there just to keep their energies high. It seemed every once in a while a warm gust of wind would move into the air, warming the cold and chilly day. Goldsmith took note of this but the mesmerizing scrapping of the cat moving dirt and the sound of hammers as they built themselves a new platform, soon dissipated these thoughts. Days end meant time to head back to the village, tired but satisfied and full of curiosity the thoughts of Mammie’s special, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, greens and homemade buns gave the group the energy they needed to make the walk home.
A hard days work, and full bellies, the friends waved their goodbyes as they anticipated their hopeful future.
